Overview

An ambitious, long-term infrastructure initiative, the Gento Seaport Project involves the construction of a 22-meter deep-sea transshipment port on Banana Island. This port is designed to become a regional maritime hub, connecting West Africa to global shipping lanes. The significant depth allows for the berthing of the world’s largest vessels, enhancing Sierra Leone’s competitiveness in international trade.

What we did

  • A rail link from Sierra Leone’s mining regions to the port, streamlining ore transportation

  • A railway bridge connecting Kent to Banana Island, enabling continuous, efficient cargo movement

  • Support for large-scale mineral exports, thereby resolving longstanding logistical bottlenecks for mining operations
